At Midwife Associates we embrace the midwifery model of care and trust in the normalcy of birth. This is why we support our patients in a variety of birth options. Whether you are a first time birther seeking a wait-and-see approach or a repeat birther wanting to have a vaginal birth after cesarean, VBAC, we provide services to support you choice.
Non-Medicated Vaginal Birth
This method is also known as Natural childbirth and involves a woman laboring and birthing without the use any type of sedatives or anesthesia. Women choosing to use this method are able to walk, squat, and assume different positions which can shorten the labor and delivery.
This method most commonly involves an epidural, a local anesthetic that inhibits feeling from the waist down. By using this method many women achieve vaginal birth without feeling any contractions or pushing discomfort. Epidurals restrict the mother’s ability to move and have the potential to slow labor.
Vaginal Delivery after Cesarean, VBAC
We proudly offer qualifying families the option to have a trial labor in effort to achieve a vaginal birth after a cesarean, VBAC. We support a vaginal trial labor for a maximum of two prior cesarean sections.
Do you qualify for a VBAC?
- No more than two low transverse “bikini cut” cesarean deliveries.
- No uterine scars, anomalies, or previous rupture.
- No major risks factors.
- The baby must be head down.
- No twins or multiples
- Less than 41 weeks pregnant
- No abnormally large baby
You should be encouraged by knowing that 90% of women who have undergone cesarean deliveries are candidates for VBAC.
